EPD's explained



What is an EPD?

An EPD is an Environmental Product Declaration and is commonly issued alongside building products. Most suppliers should be able to supply you with this information.
Within an EPD as shown on the left, you will find a lifecycle assessment of the building product. When reading pay special attention to the following items:
Functional unit This is the unit in which the environmental impact is measured, which can range from pieces to dimensions or even weight. In this example the unit is 1 m2 (p. 4)
LCA stages Not every LCA stage may be included. (p. 4)
Assesment method Methods are subject to change, in this example there are two assesment sets included, a 2013 and 2019 version. (p. 12)
Data sourcing In this example a mix of EcoInvent and Nationale Milieudatabase have been used (p. 9 - 11)
