Welcome to CarbonSpace!

CarbonSpace makes Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) for early-stage design easy. We help you to make carbon-aware decisions in your architectural designs by providing transparent, understandable data – whether you’re looking at a single project or your whole portfolio.
Rough is good enough! Our motto is central to how CarbonSpace works. We believe that in the early stages of design, simplified ballpark figures stimulate better conversations and help steer away from data paralysis.

When and why to use CarbonSpace

Explore - Find the biggest opportunities to reduce embodied carbon in your design from day one.
Track and Trace - Follow changes throughout the design process to control and steer design decisions, creating lasting carbon reductions in collaboration with your stakeholders.
Portfolio Management - Prepare for ESG compliance, gain insights into your portfolio and its impact on the environment, and inform your green portfolio strategies.

What is included in the public release?

We want to enable everyone to make effective carbon decisions in their designs, and to be able to compare designs across different contexts. CarbonSpace comes with two default libraries:
Ökobaudat Our baseline library with all components and elements found in the database.
CarbonSpace library A library of sensible defaults for the world’s most common materials such as concrete, glass, timber, and steel, as well as components such as windows, façade buildups, and structures to get you started.
Standardised templates to get calculating fast.
Customisability so you can create your own materials and connect to third-party software.

Where does CarbonSpace come from?

CarbonSpace is an initiative by , a Dutch architecture company that is recognised globally for their exemplary, outspoken projects that accelerate our cities and landscapes towards a better future. CarbonSpace is currently funded by MVRDV and has been released to the public for free as part of their mission for a greener, more equitable world. As part of this public release, MVRDV will not process user data or the intellectual property of the user except to the extent it is required for the user's own work within CarbonSpace, unless explicit consent is given.
